The proposed research will be on symbolic landscapes present in indigenous art and what they may say about a culture's connection to their natural environment. The research will focus on beadwork and Cherokee symbolism in relation to the forests of North Carolina. The analysis is important when researching the Cherokee because it appears that every part of nature is a valuable symbol to the tribe, as shown through their use of natural material and imagery.
