Varsovians and the Space of the Former Ghetto
Faculty Sponsor: Adam Teller
Alex explored the transformations of the Warsaw district of Muranów, the site of the former Jewish ghetto. Muranow has been emblematic of the dialogue between past and present, commemoration and forgetting witnessed by the developing sense of Polish democratic identity after the fall of communism in 1989. After researching the social and material history of the area, Alex conducted interviews with residents about the role of the legacy of Polish Jews in the life of the neighborhood and their reactions to the newly opened Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
