Finding Waiyaki: The Private Man, the Leader of the Kikuyu, and the Father of the Kenyan Resistance Movement

Faculty Sponsor: Elliott Collo

Angela compiled a historical narrative based on collections of oral stories and other written accounts about the life and times of Waiyaki wa Hinga, a trader in nineteenth century East Africa. Waiyaki is heralded as one of the fathers of the resistance movement against the British and hero during the rise of the Mau Mau.

Angela is now raising two children with husband, Matthew. She teaches 7th grade math and science at the Gordon School in East Providence.
