Benita will explore the synthesis and characterization of a novel protease inhibitor that has been designed to overcome flaws of naturally derived inhibitors. She hopes that her work with Christopher Seto, assistant professor of chemistry, will lead to a more effective compound to prevent and treat cancer.

Benita received her Dental degree and completed her Orthodontic specialty training at the University of California, San Francisco. She has won several awards for her master’s thesis research, academic achievement, and commitment to community service including the prestigious National Thomas Graber Award, the Charlie Schultz Award, UCSF American Association of Orthodontics Award, and the Ulrich Scholarship. Benita lives and practices in Salem, Oregon. She loves to travel with her husband, hike and backpack around Oregon, and spend time with their 2 dogs.
