Immigration Policy and Race Perceptions in Brazil and Mexico: A Comparative Study

This research project examines the relationship between immigration policy and perceptions of race in Brazil and Mexico. Caín will perform a qualitative cross-sectional study that utilizes 20 structured interviews from each country. The data from these interviews will then be compared with each other to examine how differences in immigration policies from these two different countries correlate with how citizens self identify when considering biological and cultural factors. This study hopes to shed light on the impact that immigration policy has on a society’s definition of race and to create a valuable dialogue for multiple disciplines on the definition of race.
