Reclaiming a Culture of Academic Success in USVI Public High Schools

Faculty Sponsor: Cynthia Garcia-Coll

Chahney explored specific challenges to children’s success in the US Virgin Island schools. By examining USVI school curriculum and looking at existing models like the Harlem Charter school model, Chahney hoped to identify ways to address challenges to children’s success while honoring traditional Caribbean notions of the relationship of the school to the community.

In 2016, Chahney completed her M.A. in Education and Advocacy at New York University. She is currently the Education Coordinator at Grand Street Settlement in Brooklyn, NY.
