What Constitutes a Good End-of-Life for Korean-Canadian Elders in Toronto, Canada?

Faculty Sponsors: Adia Benton and Elizabeth Taylor

Christine conducted an independent, ethnographic research study in Toronto, Canada, examining what constitutes an ideal life - and an ideal death - at the end-of-life for South Korean immigrant elders. In the summer of 2013, she explored how elderly individuals and their families navigate their divergent world-views around migration, medical care, and Confucian concepts of filial duty. Christine hopes her research will foster a better understanding of what elders, and their families, believe makes a good life and a good death.

Currently, Christine is pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Toronto, under the supervision of Dr. Camilla Zimmermann at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
