Mapping Ecological and Scientific Knowledge of the Atlantic Cod in Southern New England to Improve Fisheries Management

Faculty Sponsor: Caroline Karp

In cooperation with scientists and fishermen, Emma compiled information to create a greater understanding about populations of Atlantic cod. She used ethnographic methodologies and geographical information system (ArcGIS) technology to organize her findings and produce a more nuanced and accurate body of knowledge about the species. This work will lay the groundwork for improved communication between commercial and scientific communities, creating a foundation from which improved fisheries management decisions can be made.

Emma was a consultant and grants writer for Africares in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 2015, she completed her Master's in Conflict Transformation and Development at the SIT Graduate Institute. She was a Development Coordinator at Bihar Relief Organization and is currently a Volunteer Coordinator at No More Deaths/No Mas Muertes.
