Gil undertook a two-part project. He used high-resolution topographic data and images of Mars to investigate the geology of its polar regions, then selected two prime landing sites for human expeditions to the planet and assessed the advantages of human rather than robot exploration.

Gil received his B.S. and Masters from Brown in Geology. He earned his J.D. from New York University in 2009 and in 2010 his LLM in Taxation from NYU. He is currently an associate in the tax and benefits department at Ropes and Gray in Boston focusing on nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations. Gil regularly advises colleges and universities, health care organizations, private foundations and other nonprofit and tax-exempt clients in connection with affiliations, acquisitions, mergers, dissolutions, joint ventures, unrelated business income tax matters, executive compensation and employee benefit plans.
