From CDGM to FCM: Living Arts, Sargent Shriver, and Head Start in Mississippi

Faculty Sponsor: Francoise Hamlin

Hannah researched the evolution of the Child Development Group of Mississippi (CDGM) as it transitioned to the Friends of Children of Mississippi (FCM). She focused specifically on the relationship between the local leadership of these two Head Start programs and the funding provided, and later withheld, by the Office of Economic Opportunity. Hannah investigated whether or not the conditions of the Office of Economic Opportunity's Head Start grants from 1965-1967 undermined or supported the mission and goals of CDGM and FCM.

In 2016, Hannah became a Fullbright Fellow working in Helsinki, Finland. In collaboration with faculty at the University of Helsinki, she conducts research about the construction of race and whiteness in Helsinki daycares.
