Plasmonic Photocatalysis
Faculty Sponsor: Jingming Xu
Plasmonics is the study of interactions between photons and free electrons in a material. Photocatalysis is the acceleration of a chemical reaction by absorbing photons (light) in a catalyst particle. Plasmonic photocatalysis is the process of plasmonic nanostructures being used to drive direct photocatalysis with greater efficiency, and potentially with visible photons instead of the more conventional but less available UV photons. Jamelle developed a new material for plasmonic photocatalysis in order to improve photocatalytic efficiency.
