James will study the characterization of infrared and sub-millimeter wavelength filters to facilitate the analysis of the radiation from the furthest known objects in the Universe. He will measure the optical transmission properties of these filters, repeating the calibration tests from room to cryogenic temperatures.

James received his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University in 2008. In 2008 he was named a Pappalardo Fellow in Physics at MIT. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics at Wellesley College. His research interests are in experimental particle astrophysics including dark matter detection and precision tests of gravity with lunar laser ranging.
