John will be working with Professor Rose Rosengard Subotnik to develop a new seminar in the Department of Music. The course, Seminar in Music and Theater: American Musical Theater, will be dedicated to music with a theatrical aspect, including opera, musical theater, cabaret and film.

John is now living in Los Angeles, working as an actor, gallery-represented visual artist, and recording artist. He is also the President of Under the Skyway Productions, Inc. In 2006, he won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as Frankie Valli in Broadway's Jersey Boys. He is the only American actor to date to have received a Lead Actor in a Musical Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Award for a Broadway debut. John sang lead vocals on the Grammy-award winning Jersey Boys cast album, certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In 2013, director Clint Eastwood cast Young to reprise his role as "Frankie Valli" in Warner Brothers' film adaptation of Jersey Boys, which is going to be released June 20, 2014. John has appeared in Glee and was Marius in a recent production of Les Miserable. John was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
