Of Masks and Men: A Lucha Libre Story

Sponsor: Douglas Brown

Luis’ project began almost a year ago when he started training lucha libre at the Gimnasio del Diablo Velasco in Guadalajara, Mexico. Over the course of his training, Luis has gained insights into the sport and collected the stories of the men and women who risks their lives and financial stability to fulfill their dreams of becoming luchadores, Mexico’s modern warriors. Luis compiled his research into a multi-media ethnography in hopes of answering the question, “What drives an individual to want to become a luchador?”

Luis works at the Erdmiin Urguu Complex School as a language liaison to Mongolian English Language teachers. He teaches English classes, plans lessons with Mongolian teachers, leads English Teaching Methodology seminars and runs after school English clubs.
