A Forgotten Collection: Re-introducing the Egyptian Artifacts in Brazil’s National Museum to Egyptology

Faculty Sponsor: Laurel Bestock

The Egyptian collection in Brazil’s National Museum is the largest and most important assemblage of its kind in South America. Despite this, it is not well-known in the Egyptological community, since the only means of studying the artifacts remotely are an outdated catalogue and a Portuguese-only website. In order to make the collection more accessible to international scholars Luiza will translate current object descriptions and add new information and images. Additionally, she will develop a new exhibit plan for a substantial part of the collection to attract foreign academics and local visitors.
