Maryam used the People’s Mojahedin of Iran as a case study to research how revolutionary movements continue after a revolution is over. Through archival research, formal interviews and site-based observation, she examined how utopian Mojahedin communities in Paris, New York City and Washington D.C. support and perpetuate the movement’s ideology and struggle.

Maryam received her M.S.C. from the London School of Economics and her JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Maryam is a Senior Associate at Miller Chevalier in Washington, D.C. Her practice focuses on complex civil litigation involving both U.S. and international clients. Previously, Maryam was an associate at a multinational law firm where she represented public and privately owned companies in civil cases, as well as arbitration matters, involving issues of federal, state, and foreign law. She developed particular knowledge working with sovereign governments and state-owned companies both on civil disputes, as well as diplomatic issues. Throughout her career, Maryam has worked extensively on topics relating to the Middle East and North Africa. Her prior experiences include providing legal representation to a number of regional governments, working at a local human rights organization in a Middle Eastern country, and serving on a fact-finding mission to Egypt on behalf of the National Lawyers Guild. Maryam has also written a number of academic pieces on issues of international law relating to the Middle East region, with a focus on transitional justice and international criminal law.
