Mel will investigate the development of Kopimism, a Swedish religious community committed to internet piracy. Mel will focus on how the Kopimist Church of Sweden utilizes religious liberty to justify internet piracy in the face of prohibitive legislation. She will explore the growing tensions between state and religious authority. Mel hopes her research will offer insights into the practical, cultural, and creative challenges to internet piracy laws in the Digital Age.
