Paying Attention to Electrical Synapses

Faculty Sponsor: Barry Connors

Using electrophysiology, Phil sought to prove the existence of electrical synapses in the habenula, a region of the brain implicated in attention function. He hoped that his findings would increase the field's understanding of the attentional deficits of schizophrenia and help to find more effective treatment methods.

Philip is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Oregon. He earned his Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of California San Francisco while working in the laboratory of Anatol Kreitzer at the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease.
