Free Labor on the Margins: Beyond Slavery in Early New England and Prison Labor in the 21st-Century U.S.

Faculty Sponsor: Michael Vorenberg

Through archival work, Robbie explored forms of coerced labor outside the system of African slavery in eighteenth and early nineteenth-century southern New England as well as the legacies of those institutions today. As a modern-day comparison, this project investigated prisoner labor in the US and provided students and educators in southern New England a repository of information about where and how to learn more about slavery and coerced labor in the region.
