The Royce Fellowship enabled me to work on the social justice issues I care deeply about in a manner that involved intellectual exploration and reflection, which I was able to do independently but also in partnership with institutions and individuals. This has become the template for my career as an education writer and consultant. I am deeply appreciative of Mr. Royce’s vision and generosity, and of the support and guidance of the Swearer Center over the years I was involved.

Samuel Seidel has remained active in projects related to educational innovation, breaking cycles of incarceration and the power of art and media. His first book, Hip Hop Genius: Remixing High School Education came out in the fall of 2011 and combined all of these passions. His work now consists of writing, speaking and consulting about alternative school designs and broader education issues.
