Communicating Nitrogen to Scientists and Citizens

Faculty Sponsor: Meredith Hastings

While climate change discourse has centered on carbon dioxide, recent research shows that humans have drastically altered the nitrogen cycle and that nitrogen affects a wide range of sectors. Tess compiled and analyzed the current science on nitrogen deposition in the United States. She both educated citizens about their own effects on the nitrogen cycle and nitrogen’s impacts on humans and also informed the upcoming federal review of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) secondary standards for nitrogen.

Therese is currently the National Climate Assessment Program Coordinator at US Global Change Research Program.
