Part of the Brown University Library, the Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS) supports digital teaching and scholarship at Brown and beyond. The CDS team draws on all aspects of library expertise: project design and management, geospatial and data visualization, digital humanities, metadata, data management and preservation, digital publication, digitization, copyright review, and custom database and software development.
As experts in multiple modes of digital scholarship, CDS works with members of the Brown community to develop projects and activities that classes can carry out over the course of a semester. The CDS team teaches weekly workshops on the methods and tools of digital scholarship, providing opportunities for teachers to explore new tools they can use in the classroom or for students to get in-depth instruction related to a course project.
CDS manages the Sidney E. Frank Digital Studio and the Patrick Ma Digital Scholarship Lab, two spaces in the Rockefeller Library that provide collaborative space, audio and video equipment, 3D printing and a video wall that can be used for digital teaching and engaged learning.
