About the Experience
BrownX offerings are currently 3-week, online, non-credit courses that require 2-3 hours of student engagement per week. Coursework may include readings, videos, collaborative or crowdsourced research projects, discussions, quizzes, and more. Students may audit or, for a modest fee, earn a certificate of completion.
The School of Professional Studies (SPS) provides:
Structured course development process that maximizes support and efficiency
Experienced instructional designers and digital media producers
Design practices that ensure rigorous, student-centered online learning experiences
Funding for content development and teaching assistant support
Faculty compensation for design and facilitation
Opportunity to utilize online content in residential courses
Faculty and the course development team work together to define time requirements based on the scope of teaching goals and design complexity. Faculty guide the timing of potential offerings based on teaching, research, and other demands and responsibilities.
