Allison Levy is Digital Scholarship Editor for the Brown Library’s Digital Publications Initiative, generously launched with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Serving in this role since 2017, she brings together key organizational, academic, and technological resources across the University to support new forms of faculty-driven scholarship, namely born-digital multimodal works intended for publication by a university press. Beyond the Brown campus, she spearheads efforts at the industry level to advance the conversation around the development, evaluation, and publication of digital scholarship in the humanities. Levy, who holds a Ph.D. in history of art from Bryn Mawr College, serves as founding series editor of Visual and Material Culture, 1300-1700 (Amsterdam University Press) and was previously founding series editor of Visual Culture in Early Modernity (Routledge). She is the author or co-author of five books on early modern Italian visual culture, and currently serves as co-chair of the College Art Association’s Committee on Research and Scholarship. She has taught at University College London, Wheaton College, and Tulane University, and currently holds an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Italian Studies at Brown. Her research has been funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Association of University Women, the Getty Research Institute, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, and the Bogliasco Foundation, among others.
