As an undergraduate, Oliver studied history of art at the Courtauld Institute. After earning his BA, he was awarded a scholarship to return to the Courtauld for his MA, focusing on the art and history of the Byzantine Empire with Professor Antony Eastmond. Before coming to Brown, Oliver designed academic study tours for a specialist art history travel company. Oliver is interested in the relationship between religious devotion and artistic representation in western Europe. His research explores the anxieties surrounding the creation and use of religious images in late-medieval England.
