The present configuration of scholars and teaching on East Asia at Brown encompasses multiple programs and Departments, including but certainly not limited to East Asian Studies.   The Departments of American Studies, Anthropology,  Comparative Literature,  History, Modern Culture and Media, Political Science,  Religious Studies, Sociology and Theatre Arts and Performance Studies all feature scholars whose work focuses on China, Japan or Korea. 

Special programs at Brown include the  Nanjing-Brown Joint Program in Gender Studies and the Humanities and the "Asia-Pacific in the Making of the Americas" Project.

The University has also recently launched a new China Initiative,  which promises to introduce a range of new teaching and research programs.
