Korean Language Program, Internship and Research Project Support

The EAS Department seeks to encourage concentrators and non-concentrators to pursue intensive language training, research, and other opportunities for learning related to Korea and offers the following support for those activities:

For concentrators in East Asian Studies

  • East Asian Studies concentrators writing an honors thesis using Korean language sources to support their research may apply for funds to be used for travel to archives or other sites associated with the research project. Students will normally apply for support in the second semester of their junior year, and begin work on the project in the summer between junior and senior year.

For both concentrators in East Asian Studies and non-concentrators

  • Undergraduates planning to attend summer language programs in Korea may apply to the EAS Department for up to $1000 in fellowship support. Funds can be applied to defray the cost of tuition, travel, or living costs for those programs.
  • The EAS Department will support students pursuing eight to ten weeks unpaid or minimally paid summer internships in Korea. Students wishing to take unpaid or minimally paid positions with NGOs, companies, or government agencies, may apply these fellowships toward travel, lodging, or living costs.

The Department will provide up to $1,000 (in total) for language program, internship, and research support.
