Our professional learning services build capacity to improve equitable educational conditions for culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Professional learning services include structured, ongoing and systemic professional development offerings, using a variety of formats, time frames and delivery mechanisms; supports for educator networks at state, district and school levels; the use of technology to engage educators in collaborative learning; and graduate courses and degree programs.
Our long established expertise in the areas of equity and diversity informs our attention to context, and to the application of processes, tools and strategies that enhance learning for diverse students. Working collaboratively with educators, we support them in launching and sustaining strategies for improvement, and in learning together what it takes to apply research based frameworks and tools in practice.
Our objective is to assist districts and schools in developing a comprehensive, equitable program of services for ELLs. The Alliance's approach to professional development aims to build knowledge and skills in the areas of cultural competence; language and literacy development; best instructional practice; effective, equitable programming; school climate; and parent involvement. We train educators to implement research-based practices to raise the achievement of ELLs, as well as other learners. The outcome for this work with schools is to ensure that all students are held to high standards and have access to challenging academic programs that prepare them for college and careers.
