The Department of Education at Brown University invites applications for the position of Director of Teacher Education. Brown’s teacher education program certifies secondary school teachers for urban teaching in a one-year MAT program and offers opportunities for undergraduate students in teacher education. The director will serve on the faculty inside or outside the tenure system at the rank of Associate Professor, Professor, Senior Lecturer, or Distinguished Senior Lecturer.
We seek a dynamic leader with experience in and commitment to high quality teacher education who welcomes the opportunity to develop and lead Brown’s teacher education program. The director will provide intellectual and organizational leadership to the teacher education program, help develop graduate and undergraduate curricula in teacher education, represent the program within and outside the University, and teach courses and advise students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, experience in secondary school classrooms, and a proven record as an outstanding teacher educator and administrative leader. The ideal candidate is a visionary intellectual and practical leader of teacher education who has experience in program design and is an excellent communicator, team builder, and manager. Applicants seeking tenured positions should also have a doctorate and a significant research program with a strong record of published scholarship in teacher education, teaching and learning, language development, urban education, youth development, or a related area.
