Paxson visits Techstyle Haus construction site

Fit for a Sun King:
A team of Brown and RISD students is working to complete construction of a modular solar home by late April. That’s when they dismantle it, ship it to France, then reassemble it on the grounds of the Versailles Palace this summer for competition with 19 other international teams in the 2014 Solar Decathlon Europe. Brown President Christina Paxson visited the worksite on Wednesday, March 19.


A better water wing to harvest tidal energy

The hydrofoil team presents findings in Washington, D.C.:
The eternal ebb and flow of tides — 24 x 7 x 365 — makes them a dependable source of energy, but how to harness all that, especially in shallow water? Shreyas Mandre and colleagues at Brown have developed an efficient water wing and optimized its performance with a “secret sauce.”

Rashid Zia, Manning Assistant Professor of Engineering and Physics at Brown University, is among the 143 Outstanding Referees of the Physical Review and Physical Review Letters journals of the American Physical Society, as chosen by the journal editors for 2014.

HMSolution 1 of 17 teams selected

Brown Team Selected for National Entrepreneurship Competition

HMSolution is one of 17 teams that has been selected to participate in the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) Open Minds exhibition at the Tech Museum of Innovation in Silicon Valley on March 22 in San Jose, California. Margaret Lengerich, who received her master’s degree in Brown’s Program in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship (PRIME) in 2013, is the founder and CEO of HMSolution. She will be exhibiting on behalf of HMSolution at Open Minds.
