Professional Accomplishments
Butterfield was a news, projects and investigative reporter for the Providence Journal and the Boston Globe for more than 30 years, and an Assistant Professor for the Practice of Journalism at Suffolk University in Boston for the last 15 years. He was twice named a Pulitzer Prize finalists, once for public service and once for national reporting. He has won numerous other honors for his work, including The Associated Press Managing Editors Award for Public Service, North America, and a national Gerald E. Loeb Award. His interests are in narrative no-fiction and social justice reporting.
