The Department of English, Nonfiction Writing Program, will present an Alumni Writers Forum on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 4:00 pm in Smith-Buonanno Hall, Rm. 201, 95 Cushing Street. Four alums from the Nonfiction Writing Program will offer insights on careers in nonfiction writing, editing, and teaching. Poet and essayist, April Freely '04; "Wirecutter" staff writer, Sabrina Imbler '16; freelance writer and MFA student, Erica Schwiegershausen '13; and writer and environmental activist, Daniel Sherrell '13.5 will read from their work and talk about writing beyond Brown.

Casey Shearer Memorial Lecture: Ezra Edelman

Oscar-winning director Ezra Edelman will deliver the 17th Annual Casey Shearer Memorial Lecture. Edelman directed the 2016 five-part documentary "O.J.: Made In America," for which he earned an Academy Award. He also co-produced the documentary "Cutie and the Boxer," a profile of a 40-year-old New York couple that was nominated for an Oscar in 2013. Edelman's lecture will precede a presentation of the 17th Annual Casey Shearer Memorial Awards for Excellence in Creative Nonfiction.

Gina Rodriguez-Drix, ’08.5, writer, performer, birth worker, and arts administrator, will discuss "The Subversive Tools We Carry: Writing from the intersection of cultural production and reproductive justice" on February 27, 5:30 pm, in the George Houston Bass Performing Arts Space, Churchill House, 155 Angell St. Her talk will explore writing as a tool of resilience in times of tyranny, the art(ists) at stake, and the role of reproductive justice in a changing cultural and political landscape.
