David Shields will discuss his new book, “Other People: Takes and Mistakes" on March 6, 5:30 pm, in Smith-Buonanno 106. His talk will explore the fraught task of writing about others and the ethical challenges a writer must confront. Shields is the author of 20 internationally bestselling books including "I Think You’re Totally Wrong: A Quarrel" (co-written with Caleb Powell), which was adapted to film by James Franco. Shields is also the author of "Reality Hunger" (named one of the best books of 2010), "The Thing About Life Is That One Day You’ll Be Dead" ("The New York Times" bestseller), and "Black Planet" (finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award). The recipient of Guggenheim and NEA fellowships, Shields has published essays and stories in "The New York Times Magazine," "Harper’s," "Esquire," "Yale Review," "Salon," "Slate," "McSweeney’s," and "The Believer." His work has been translated into twenty languages.
