Douglas Mao, Professor of English at The Johns Hopkins University, will present a lecture titled “Utopia’s Stories” on Wednesday, March 16, at 5:30 pm in Brown/RISD Hillel, 80 Brown Street, 2nd floor. Anchored in readings of notable utopian texts by William Morris, E. M. Forster, and others, this talk will examine the much-discussed question of what kind of literary art, if any, would be possible in utopia. It will also consider how utopian and anti-utopian imaginings of the place of art in a perfected social organization open toward larger questions about meaning, experience, and authenticity.
