Doctoral Student Status Issues

It is assumed that doctoral students who accept an offer of admission from the Graduate School will spend their first three years in residence (engaged in full-time study) at Brown earning 8 tuition units per year for a total of 24 tuition units in residence. There are special policies and provisions for students who need to be away from campus during their regular course of study at the University.

The Graduate School recognizes that during the course of their graduate study a student may need to request a leave of absence.
