Research Summary: Michael studies the WWII-era incarceration of people of Japanese descent in the Western Hemisphere. More specifically, his research deals with the censored community newspapers produced by Japanese American prisoners in ten War Relocation Authority incarceration camps from 1943-1945. His digital history project Incarcerated Quotidian utilizes articles from the newspaper Topaz Times as windows into the everyday lives of prisoners at the Central Utah Relocation Center.
