Research Interests: gender/sexuality, power, medievalism, the intersection(s) of race and gender, the history of the family, burials, and memory

Stacey works on the western Mediterranean throughout the Middle Ages (c.900-1450), with a particular emphasis on the relationship(s) between gender, sexuality, and power. Her dissertation is a longue durée examination of concubinage from the perspective of its role in rulership - particularly processes of power consolidation - in the polities of Iberia, North Africa, and Sicily. She is also concerned with the visual archive for concubinage, which draws on her museum background and interest in the ways that the public engages with the past.
