Research Summary: Stacey works on the western Mediterranean throughout much of the Middle Ages (c.900-1520), with a particular emphasis on the relationship(s) between gender, sexuality, and power. Her dissertation is a longue durée comparative examination of concubinage in the Christian and Islamic polities of Iberia, North Africa, and Sicily, considering it from the perspectives of interfaith interactions, rulership and processes of power consolidation, and mothering. She is also concerned with the afterlife of concubinage, which draws on her museum background and interest in the ways that the public engages with the past.
