Did you know? IBES offers a competitive summer internship for undergraduates in partnership with the Leadership Alliance.
The summer 2020 session will begin on June 8 and will mark the third year for this program at IBES. This summer, IBES will host four undergraduates from across the country, studying a variety of disciplines in the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and environmental and occupational health.
The opportunity is run at the Institute by IBES fellows Samiah Moustafa and Elizabeth Fussell, who have an important goal for the program.
“Through our collaboration with the Leadership Alliance,” says Moustafa, “we aim to increase the number of underrepresented minorities receiving doctoral degrees in the natural, environmental, and social sciences, at the national and institutional level.”
The Leadership Alliance is a Brown University-based consortium that strives to develop underrepresented students into outstanding leaders and role models in academia, business, and the public sector. Highly motivated upperclassmen from across the country can apply for the nine-week, full-time paid internship which includes a competitive stipend, housing, and travel. Participants gain hands-on research experience and mentoring with an IBES faculty advisor from one of a variety of disciplines, including earth, environmental and planetary Sciences; ecology and evolutionary biology; history; sociology; epidemiology; and anthropology.
