Graduate Students: History

Ji Soo studies the environmental history of energy infrastructure in the Soviet Union, focusing on transnational development projects of Siberian oil and gas fields in the second half of the twentieth century. She primarily explores the ways in which production of oil (energy source for machines) and production of food (energy source for human) intersected in that history of infrastructure development. Ultimately, she hopes to demonstrate how energy infrastructure shapes society as well as how social demand gives rise to a new type of energy foundation.
