The Spanish Language Week aims to enrich the cultural awareness of its participants by presenting varied topics of interest that reflect different aspects of Hispanic life.

Non-credit Beginning Swahili Course

The Center for Language Studies sponsors not-for-credit language courses for members of the Brown University community.  These courses are taught by native speakers under the auspices of the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants Program. For academic year 2015-2016 we are offering Kiswahili. This class doesn't require any previous knowledge of  the language. 

The class will begin on Tues, February 9, 2016.  The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:50 at 195 Angell Street, Room 202

Heritage Languages in the University Classroom

Wed., 12/02; 3:00-5:00pm
Petteruti Lounge in the Stephen Robert Campus Center

Dr. Maria Luisa Parra, Senior Preceptor at Harvard, will share methodologies, best practices, and personal experiences applicable to teaching any Heritage Language, a language a student has learned at home, but is not the dominant language spoken outside the home. Dr. Parra will speak on Heritage Language learning and how tapping into students' native language can unlock valuable resources, including learning about their culture, language, and ultimately themselves.
