In partnership with the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice at Brown and the RI Middle Passage Ceremonies and Port Markers Project, the JCB is cosponsoring a public lecture featuring Sowande' Mustakeem, author of Slavery at Sea: Terror, Sex, and Sickness in the Middle PassageSowande' Mustakeem's study explores the social conditions and human costs embedded in the world of maritime slavery, and how the Middle Passage was a violently regulated process foundational to the institution of bondage.
