Post-MFA Teaching Fellowships in Literary Arts 2021-2022

The Offices of the Dean of the Graduate School and the Dean of the Faculty are pleased to offer up to four teaching fellowship opportunities for recent MFA graduates from the Literary Arts department. These opportunities are available in the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2021-22 academic year and come on top of the additional term of funded support that the cohort has already received.

Post-MFA Teaching Fellows will teach one course per semester for up to two semesters in Fall 2021 and/or Spring 2022 and advise a number of undergraduate independent studies. Fellows will receive a salary of $10,000 for the teaching of one course and advising of up to two undergraduate independent studies. Fellows, including graduates who elected the Graduate School’s SHIP health insurance extension through November 14, 2021, will be eligible to participate in an employee health insurance plan, with Fellows contributing the full premium (details are available at on the Brown Human Resources website) for any period covered.

Applicants must be Brown Literary Arts MFA graduates from the 2021 cohort. In order to assume the positions, students must fulfill all requirements for the MFA degree and submit to the Graduate School all materials, including the thesis, by August 31, 2021.

The Fellows program is open to students of all nationalities. However, international students will have to arrange with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISSS) for authorization for employment for the term of the appointment (Optional Practical Training).

Selection Criteria
The applicant selection criteria will include the applicant’s record of excellence in teaching, the strength of the writing and/or language art portfolio they have built upon graduation, and the teaching needs of the Literary Arts department. Please note that we will make every effort to distribute these opportunities to the currently graduating cohort as equitably as possible.
The application is available in UFunds, under “Graduate School Distinctive Opportunities.”

Applications are due at 5:00 p.m. on June 14, 2021.
