John  Keene

John Keene is the author of six volumes of fiction and poetry, including the short fiction collection Counternarratives, winner of a 2016 American Book Award and 2016 Lannan Literary Award; a novel, Annotations; the poetry collection Seismosis and poetry chapbook Playland; and an art book, GRIND, in collaboration with photographer Nicholas Muellner.   He is also a translator whose works include translations of Brazilian author Hilda Hilst’s The Obscene Madame D and Letters from a Seducer.   A long-time member of the Dark Room Writers Collective and a graduate fellow of the Cave Canem Writers Workshops, he has also published his fiction, poetry, essays and translations widely in journals and magazines.  He is Associate Professor and Chair of African American and African Studies at Rutgers University-Newark.
