Chelsea Koonz

Chelsea Koonz is a public health social worker in the Center for Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center (BMC). Her work involves reengaging PLWHA in medical care who have been lost to follow up or are at risk of falling out of care due to complex psychosocial barriers such as substance use, unmet mental health needs, immigration status, and housing instability, among others. Additionally, she is currently leading the BMC’s 90/90/90 initiative, which unites doctors, patients, nurses, pharmacists, and case managers to work together on identifying systems barriers to medical care and strategies to support patient’s retention in care. Prior to joining BMC, she worked abroad for a total of five years implementing asset based development projects in the Dominican Republic and, later, conducting community-based participatory research in Mexico.
