Diversity and Inclusion

The Department of Emergency Medicine strives to create and maintain a provider population that mirrors the diverse patient population we serve in Rhode Island. We embrace all types of diversity as strength and as part of our commitment to excellence in our mission areas of patient care, research, and education. We believe that diverse faculty, residency and fellowship programs are essential to our long-term success as leaders in academic medicine. We seek to develop the academic careers of our faculty and trainees.

The Department of Emergency Medicine strongly encourages applications from those who are under-represented in our specialty, including women, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ candidates. Brown University does not discriminate or permit discrimination by any member of its community against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, parental status, marital status, age, disability, citizenship, or veteran status in matters of admissions, employment, housing, or services or in the educational programs or activities it operates.

Dear Colleagues,

We are a department committed to the shared values of diversity and inclusion in our faculty and trainees who provide emergency care to the people of Rhode Island. We firmly believe that we can achieve and sustain excellence by recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse workforce and by creating a climate and culture of inclusion and respect. These efforts will take effect across all levels, from our leadership, administration, faculty, staff to our students. We aim to ensure these values are upheld from our strategic plan to our patient care delivery. We are excited to announce the Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan for Brown Emergency Medicine. Through these initiatives and activities, we will create a path forward for equity.
