Dr. Linakis awarded NIH grant on teen alcohol screening

July 3, 2013

In April, Dr. James Linakis, MD, PhD was awarded a 5-year, $3,278,096 R01 grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism at NIH. His project, entitled “Teen Alcohol Screening in the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network” will utilize 15 sites in the HRSA-funded PECARN network to determine if the NIAAA two-question screen is an efficient and valid alcohol screening instrument among US pediatric emergency department patients. This study has the potential to validate a screen that can then be used in pediatric emergency departments.
