Research study examines police role in reducing overdose deaths

Traci Green, PhD, a research scientist within the Department of Emergency Medicine, is leading a study aimed at using police involvement to reduce overdose deaths due to opioid use in Rhode Island and Connecticut.  The study involves interviewing police officers, supervisors and prescription drug users in an effort to empower law enforcement to not only act as 'first responders' to reduce overdose deaths by administering a drug like Naloxone, but also improving police-community relations.
