Research Interests:

My research interests are in the areas of diagnosis and treatment of fatty liver diseases by studying potential biomarkers, conducting novel therapies in animal models, and developing assays for clinical use.  My recent work is focused on studying the role of Chitinase 3 like protein 1 (Chi3L1) in hepatic insulin resistance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and liver fibrosis. Currently, we try to answer whether Chi3L1 can serve as a potential biomarker in vitro for early detection of NASH and liver fibrosis. In addition, we’re evaluating the effects of a monoclonal anti-Chi3L1 antibody on hepatic insulin resistance and NASH in the mouse liver. All the data generated from these works will help us better understand and treat patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases.
