Curriculum

The Internal Medicine Residency Program is 36 months in length and is centered at Kent Hospital. The curriculum, while internal medicine specific, will be based on the the following six core competencies with the understanding and application of OMT when appropriate to the medical specialty.

  • Competency 1 - Medical Knowledge
  • Competency 2 - Patient Care
  • Competency 3 - Interpersonal and Communication Skills
  • Competency 4 - Professionalism
  • Competency 5 - Practice-based Learning and Improvement
  • Competency 6 - System-Based Practice

Residents rotate on inpatient floors, ICU, CCU, and in the subspecialties of cardiology, neurology, emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, nephrology, pulmonology, infectious disease, radiology, consultative medicine, and women's health.

Early in the intern year residents meet with program directors and their faculty coach to discuss career goals and plan their curriculum. The residents' relationship with the faculty coach is the foundation of the mentorship program.
