Nick Burns

Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?

The happiest people around. This was impressive to me on my interview day and sold me on the residency program. If you're going to spend so much time with the same group of people in the same environment almost every day for the next four years, the best way to do it is with happy people who are excited to come to work every day. And on top of it, the quality of the training and the faculty are second-to-none.

What are your interests within OB/GYN?

Currently thinking MFM. I also have interests/research goals in global health and in optimizing the experience of medical care (within OB/GYN) for victims of trauma.

What is your favorite thing to do in Providence or Rhode Island?

Summer here is awesome. Beaching, kayaking, and traveling to other spots in New England... I wish I had a boat!

 Where do you live?

Downtown! It's walkable, tons of great restaurants, festivals and block parties throughout the summer, an ice skating rink in the winter... the city has a lot to offer, even if the rest of my class thinks Cranston is cooler!

One piece of advice for candidates:

Find a place that suits you and surrounds you with fascinating, hard-working, and happy people. You'll take notes on numbers and facilities and research, but in every place you'll remember the people with whom you interviewed and interacted. Just remember, you'll spend nearly every waking moment of the next four years with those same people, so you better love them!
